Are you ready for a taste of the true cruising lifestyle?

Have you been dreaming of the open space and incredible freedom that comes with living and traveling on a sail boat?

How about longing for the fresh, crisp sea air and perfect turquoise blue waters that can only be found at anchor in front of a lush green tropical island?

If this sounds familiar, you are on the precipice of the adventure of a lifetime!

Not Just A Sailing Charter

As you may be aware, with the right qualifications, you can rent a bare sail boat for a week of vacation. While this is a wonderful way to unwind from ‘normal’ life, it is a world away from the cruising life.

Sail a true blue water catamaran

Learn (or practice) how to sail a 47ft catamaran that has crossed oceans and anchored in remote atolls.

Discover the art of passage planning, sail handling and navigation as we passage through big seas, open waters and tight anchorages.

discover all the other stuff under the sails

Unlike a bare-bones charter boat, Indioko is a home with all the systems you need to live completely off-grid.

Gain the essential knowledge of how to maintain all the systems you will need to cruise without relying on someone coming to help.

Pick our brains

Before taking the leap and moving onboard, hear from a couple who have done it already.

We love to share our experiences from the genesis to current day. We haven’t done it all but we know exactly what you will go through to step off land.

meet the cruising community

Your new family awaits. You are about to set out on a truly unique adventure but you are not alone.

Enjoy meeting others who are already living a life upon the waves and hearing their stories from far flung places.

Who Are We?

If you haven’t come across us before, you can get a feel for who we are through one of our YouTube episodes and reading our little bio’s below.

We have been full-time cruising since 2020, have covered over a thousand nautical miles, faced squalls, high seas and run aground (we all make mistakes!)

Our love of sharing our adventure stems from the hope it inspires people like you to take that last step and open a world of freedom ahead.

Iain (DaRed) Cameron

Iain

Captain

Learning every day, Iain has one of those inquisitive minds that isn’t happy with ‘it just works’. That has paid off as we add and maintain multiple systems onboard.

Brioni

First Mate

A teacher in a previous life, Brioni loves nothing more than unlocking others’ potential. You will be hard pushed to find a more positive, creative and optimistic person.

Indioko

Our Floating Home

A Leopard 47 (2005), Indioko is a proven blue water cruiser. Stable in high seas, comfortable at anchor and brilliantly spacious inside, she served life as a bareboat charter vessel before being rescued by Iain and Brioni who have built her back to find her true calling.

What We Offer

The Cruiser Experience is not like chartering a boat for a week. It’s not a sailing school either.

We offer the rare opportunity to be fully immersed in the cruising lifestyle; to live and breathe an experience that so few are able to make a reality.

YouTube and movies will have you believe it is all sun tans and dolphins… and sometimes it is, but to live a full-time cruising life means you see what happens when the cameras aren’t on and you don’t have the luxury of the editing software.

By joining us onboard Indioko, you step into an honest world, where you see exactly what it takes to keep a bluewater boat afloat. We will try to find the dolphins too though.

During your stay, we will sail to some of the most beautiful anchorages that the charter companies don’t tell you about, experience the thrill of sailing in open waters and sample the true cruiser life at its fullest.

Before selling up and setting sail, the Cruiser Experience is the best possible way to confirm this is the life for you. During your stay, we encourage you to pick our brains about everything, from finances to mechanics. While we don’t claim to know it all, we have certainly been faced with most of it.

What is included?
We tailor the Cruiser Experience to meet your needs. There is no ‘one size fits all’ and cruising can be done on a champagne or a beer budget. We will have several opportunities to chat with you and build the perfect program to make sure you gain the invaluable knowledge and experience you need to take the leap.

And it’s not just a week. Following your time onboard, we offer to assist in finding your perfect floating home. We can help identify key aspects that are important to you as well as share our tailor built ‘Buying Budget Planner’ to speed up the decision process. We will be there every step of the way should you need someone to bounce your ideas off during the purchase process.

All this comes as part of your Cruiser Experience.

It’s Not All Hard Work

While there will be so much information readily on hand for you to learn and digest, it’s important to remember that cruising is about the experience of adventure, the new and the now. Here are a few photos to awaken your sense of discovery and remind you what your time onboard will really be like.

What’s Included?

When you are ready to contact us, we will arrange a call with you to discuss your Cruiser Experience. Our goal will be to better understand what you hope to draw from your time onboard and confirm that we can help you on your journey to the cruising life.

Following this call, we can discuss travel options and likely cruising areas in which to spend your time onboard. Again, this is not a charter and so we will identify the best travel links to the location Indioko will be on the date of your booking.
At this time, we ask you for a non refundable deposit/booking fee of US$1000. This places a block on the dates agreed and holds your spot on Indioko for your true Cruiser Experience.

What’s Included

The basis of the Cruiser Experience we offer includes :

Queen Cabin with En Suite

Your own private double cabin with en suite shower and head.

Power outlets, fan and hatch directly out to the trampolines for a cool fresh breeze every morning.

Custom Itinerary

Through discussion with you, we will build the perfect itinerary to achieve the goals you set for your Cruiser Experience.

Nothing is set in stone; weather, tides and currents can all play a part.

Sailing Experience

Passage planning, helming, sail handling and boat manoeuvring are all integral skills to practise.

You will have many opportunities to practise all of these with the added comfort of one of us by your side should anything unexpected occur.

Meals and Soft Drinks Onboard

Together, we will provision for your stay and cook up home meals onboard. You are welcome to assist in the galley as much or as little as you like.

We keep a stock of soft drinks (sodas, fruit juices, cordials and water) which are freely available onboard.

Entertainment

All work and ALL play.

We have a selection of water toys including SUP boards, a sub wing, snorkelling gear and a giant inflatable dragon. Music and movies are readily on hand too.

FAQs

Here are just some of the questions we have been asked about the Cruiser Experience:

Will I be on YouTube?

While we love to film and share our adventures on our Red Seas channel, the Cruiser Experience is not something we cover.

The reason being, we want to give our undivided attention to the opportunity you have taken hold of. Rather than being stuck behind a camera (and we may still do some of that if time allows), we want to be there for you to ask any questions, try new skills, make mistakes and adventure to beautiful places without worrying who might be watching.

Why do you charge for the Cruiser Experience?

We have calculated the Cruiser Experience to equate to a week chartering a much smaller bareboat catamaran.

We believe that we offer much greater value than a bareboat experience and, should you be considering changing your lifestyle to the cruiser life, it is important that you do so with your eyes wide open. For that reason we do not charge more for food, fuel and experience.

A week on vacation will always leave you wishing you didn’t have to go back to work. A week of the Cruiser Experience will show you don’t have to. We share the good, the bad and the ugly, but with our guidance and assistance, we hope to show you just how incredible this adventure can be.

What if I’m interested in a monohull?

That’s exciting in itself as it shows you have thought about how you want to live and travel. While there are significant differences between cats and monos, there are many similarities and both of us have sailed a lot in monohulls before buying Indioko. We will be happy to explain the differences and, with so many monohulls around, we are sure we can arrange for some time on a friendly monohull to get a feel for it.

Do you provide qualifications (e.g. RYA)?

No, we do not offer any formal qualifications. While it is always recommended to seek formal qualifications, it is inaccurate to think that an RYA dayskipper is a form of license. in fact, leisure sailing does not ‘require’ any formal license at all. What is more important is that you are in control of your boat and understand the basic rules of the road.

We are happy to discuss the ‘by the book’ training and assist in clearing up any confusions that come from those courses but the Cruiser Experience is about the lifestyle, the love of sailing and the university of life that comes with living and sailing your own boat.

How does payment work?

Once your booking is accepted we will arrange a call with you to discuss your goals of the trip.

Following that call we ask that you make a non refundable deposit of US$1000. This secures your dates and allows us to begin planning your itinerary (as well as our sail plan to meet you).

One month before the date of your booking, we ask that you pay 50% of the booking total.

The remaining balance is due the week before your arrival onboard.
